MERGER
Two dynamic Filipino-American Chambers of Commerce in the East Bay merged their groups to form a powerful unified assembly. The two chambers were the Tri-Valley Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce and the Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce of Contra Costa County. Members of each Chamber were excited about this proactive approach to consolidate their organization’s efforts to unify the Fil-Am Business Community within the East Bay. A meeting was held on January 15, 1998 in San Ramon to discuss details of the merger. The members present at this meeting represented a Transition Committee that had the authority to make key decisions for the benefit of the future Chamber. One of the agreements made at that time was to name the consolidated group, Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce, East Bay (FACCEB). Other issues taken at that meeting were: 1) The creation of the By-Laws was confidently turned over to the hands of dedicated members John Hedley, principal of BSK & Associates, Dr. Ronald Campos, a private practitioner in Walnut Creek and Mars David, owner of PITI Travel Agency; 2) Election Day was set for March 10, 1998 and 3) a fund raiser at the annual Art & Wind Festival in San Ramon was presented to the group as a possible first joint activity for the merged Chamber. A consensus was made to join the efforts in this fun and profitable project. FOCUS Typically, Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce Groups attracted members only from within the area of it’s organization. However, the FACCEB, wants to expand its perspectives by opening its doors to entrepreneurs from any community or city within the area and even those outside our community. Anybody who has an interest in this kind of networking. Members of Fil-Am Chambers are successful businessmen and businesswomen who wants to be involved in pivotal civic oriented activities for target groups, while networking and exposing their businesses at the same time. It is a novel combination of good people networking for their business and together, contribute to uplifting social causes in the community and targeted areas. As a point of clarification, one does not have to be of Filipino-American background to join this Chamber or any Fil-Am Chamber, for that matter. The following is a sample list of businesses and organizations that have been active members: Insurance companies and brokers, doctors, printers, lawyers, physical and occupational therapists, bankers, stock brokers, engineering and construction companies, dentists, bakery & restaurants, computer and information technology and small to medium size business owners of various industries and services. SERVICES In the East Bay area, Fil-Am Chambers have been in existence for more than 15 years. Before the merger, scholarships to bright but underprivileged students was a major undertaking by the now defunct Contra Costa Chamber. Both Chambers also made contributions to the San Francisco Library. However, the strength of these organizations lies within its networking system. Each committed member in the Chamber represents a business. The pool of businesses becomes a natural, powerful network within the system. To make this productive system accessible to members and interested guests, regular meetings/mixers are organized. It is at these times that “business” becomes a fun, informal activity of good food, meeting goal oriented people and exchanging valuable information all at the same time. Attendees must remember to have an ample supply of business cards and brochures handy. Indeed, current members are proud to belong to this proactive organization. We are confident that future members will enjoy rewarding experiences as well. INVITATION ON BECOMING A MEMBER For more information on becoming a member, please contact any of the members listed in the Membership Directory, contact any of the Board Members or fill out the online application. |
